This is a review and a reflect of my experience of the first half of 2020. I orginally intended to do a quarter 1 review, but at the end of March there was a lot of stuff going on in the world, and I never managed to finish the post.
So 2020 - personally, I can't complain too much. I'm in a very fortunte position. I'm not going to dwell to much here on the various unfolding situations that is making 2020 what it is. All I'll write here is - Black lives matter.
At the beginning of the year I wrote down some goals for the year. Some of these have been affeted by Covid-19, but on others I've made some progress.
Start a website
Tick. I'm still not quite sure what this site is really supposed to be. But I'm enjoying throwing it together. I'll be starting throwing some more different types of content on here in the next few months too.
In addition to this site, I have a couple of other little website projects to start as well - which I haven't made any progress on so far this year.
Start doing some Art
Tick. Have a look around here. I know I'm very much new to art, so I'm planning on continuing to try different mediums. For example I did a couple of bits with Affinity designer, and I'd like to do more with that. I'm planning on posting a little more often too.
Try some video editing
I did start putting a video together. I have all the footage I need, and have done most of the editing I need to do. I'll be posting it soon.
I stated this project quite well at the beginning of the year - and did quite a bit in Janurary to March. I got into the habit of using Duolingo on the train every morning. Since I've been working at home
I've been trying to learn to juggle 5 balls on and off for the best part of a decade. I practiced quite a bit in April and May, but this tailed off a little bit in June. Planning to make more progress here in the next couple of months.
Start some other craft projects
I have plans of doing some other craft projects, maybe some wood turning, which I haven't made any progress with, yet. This is partly due to a lack of space.
I wanted to run a marathon. Done. Kind of. I signed up to a marahton on the 1st of Feburary, with Endurance Life in South Devon. The route was 27.5 miles, with 4531 feet of climbing in it - it was tough. I did finished it, eventually. I did not run all of it though - so can I claim to have run a marathon?
At somepoint later in the year I'll run the distance again. On a flatter course.
I also wanted to do a 100m ride on the road bike. I don't think I've done this distance before. In terms of bumping up the distance I've not worked on that much so far this year - the longest ride I've done this year is 55 miles. I am getting back into shape though - in April I managed to ride 20 averaing 19.4mph. Which matches my previous best from 7 or 8 years ago.
There were a couple of other plans that I had that won't come togther - I had planned on some white water kayaking in the french alps this year - it's been a couple of years since I've been out there - but that'll have to wait till next year now. The rivers aren't going anywhere. I still might be able to take the road bike and mountain bike to the alps.
Back in the last week of December 2019 I sold my flat, and had an offer accepted on a place close to where I currently live. This purchase fell through in May. Me and my wife, took this as an opportunity for a bit of a rethink - we resold the flat - and are now relocating to be closer to good kayaking and mountain biking.
